Apple Strategy Shift and Job Cuts
I think tech companies make mistakes all the time when chasing trends.
Apple is letting people go right now. They want to focus on artificial intelligence instead of older projects.
First, look at the headset business. Aplpe... I mean Apple, laid off staff working on Vision Pro gaming. That whole team is completely gone. Their internal team making virtual reality videos got cut too. They plan to let outside creators handle those softwar videos now instead of doing it in-house.
Big changes are happening in software too. Staff working on Siri were let go. Same thing happened with the team handling operating system features. They need new talent. People who know how to build underlying tech for voice assistants and AI systems. New Apple intelligence features are set to launch later this fall.
Here are the main areas affected:
Gaming work for the Vision Pro headset
In-house VR video creation projects
Siri softwar development teams
Operating system feature integration groups
These job cuts are a big move. They want better AI tools fast. Hiring fresh engineers with specific skills is the goal. Old projects must make room for future voice tools.
At the same time, rumors about a folding phone keep growing. The global market for foldable phones is small right now. Maybe one or two percent of phone sales total. But China buys a lot of them. A folding iPhone could do really well over there as a status symbol.
People always wonder if these big moves pay off. Sometimes companies cut the wrong teams. Sometimes they catch up to rivals just in time. Building good AI takes years of effort and money. We will see if losing Vision Pro staff hurts them later.
